IJMTES – EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION CHARACTERISTICS OF A DIESEL ENGINE BY USING DIESEL-NEEM OIL BLENDS

Abstract—Neem biodiesel is a future biofuel and it extract chemically from the vegetable oil. Neem oil cannot be used as a fuel directly for diesel engine because viscosity neem oil is higher than diesel; hence it affects the combustion characteristics of an engine. Many of its properties are still in under investigation and our aims to investigate the performance and emissions characteristics of single cylinder four stroke diesel engine operating on diesel and neem oil with different blending concentrations. Neem oil is blending concentrations of 15%, 25% and 35% with diesel. The emitted gases (CO2, NO, NOx and SO2) have been be analyzed by using gas analyzer. An experimental investigation have been carried out to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine by using diesel and neem oil blends at different loads. And compared which blending concentration is more effective than the diesel.
