Abstract – People working on the hand operated machineries are usually subjected to vibrations on their hand arm system. The vibrations imparted from the machines are sinusoidal in nature. They will result in the forced vibration of the human hand. When the forced vibration frequency of the human hand coincides with the natural frequency of vibration of the hand, it will result in resonance between the natural frequencies of vibration with forced vibration frequency. The effect of resonance is that it will damage the hand through fractures. This paper aims to identify that external vibration frequency that can’t be imparted to human hand. In this study the finite element modeling of human hand from CT scan images using 3D Slicer software is done first. The finite element model is imported to ANSYS 16 in order to perform modal analysis to get natural frequencies of vibrations as well as harmonic analysis in order to get the forced vibration frequencies. From the interpretation of these results the frequency at which resonance occurs is identified.
