Abstract – The Problems of water quality is becoming a serious environmental problem all over the world. A number of factors like sewage disposal, industrial effluents interacts with the ground and causes many serious issues. This affects groundwater quality of an area. This study involves the assessment of groundwater quality and its suitability for drinking purpose in Kundrathur region of Kancheepuram district. Due to the effects of the solid wastes dumped, the groundwater seems to be polluted in the areas nearby the dumping yard. Groundwater samples were collected at ten locations from bore wells covering the Kundrathur area to assess the quality of the groundwater through physico-chemical analysis. Parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids, Alkalinity, Total Hardness, Chlorides, calcium, manganese, sodium potassium iron and fluoride were determined and compared with Bureau of  Indian standards.
