Abstract – Reinforced concrete is widely used as a construction material plays an important role worldwide due to its excellent properties. Corrosion of reinforcement is one of the drawbacks in reinforced concrete structures, to overcome corrosion problem an attempt has been made in the present investigation by use of green corrosion inhibitors. These inhibitors form protective hydrophobic film on the surface of reinforcement with high alkalinity present in concrete. Corrosion behaviour of reinforcement in concrete has been investigated for Azadirachta indica (Neem) organic inhibitors.The effect of corrosion inhibiting properties on concrete and mortar is investigated experimentally. Two references concrete and mortar are considered, based on Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolanic Cement (PPC). Inhibition efficiency of green corrosion inhibitor was compared by adding them in two forms one as powder and another as solution. The fresh properties and mechanical properties have been evolved by mortar and concrete. In addition of GCI in the form of powder decreases the compressive strength due to drought resistance of the neem powder whereas solution shows the best result due to hydroscopic property of ethanol. The result of PPC and OPC slightly varies due to its change in setting time and water absorption. By using half-cell potential methods the corrosion activity was determined and it is found that 2% green corrosion inhibitor was efficient in inhibition properties. Therefore, plants and natural product extracts have been posed to achieve the target of employing as a cheap, environmentally acceptable, abundant source, readily available and effective molecules having very high inhibition efficiency and low or zero environmental impact.
