Abstract – This paper presents the numerical simulation studies on buckling behavior of honeycomb core sandwich structure. The effect of face sheet thickness, core height, cell size, cell wall thickness of honeycomb core sandwich structure is analyzed. In order to reduce the preprocessing error and computational effort, equivalent 2D elastic properties of honeycomb core sandwich structure is used. From the results, it is concluded that, effect of face sheet thickness on critical buckling strength is significant and it increases with increase in fact sheet thickness. Higher buckling strength is achieved in lower core height sandwich panel in due considerations to the space constraint. The effect of cell size and cell wall thickness is significant on critical buckling load

KeyWords – sandwich structure; honeycomb core; equivalent 2D model; finite element method; buckling
