Abstract – To After 2001 earthquake in Gujarat, massive work of damage detection, categorization and retrofitting was done by local urban bodies and government. Even after long duration few public structures were being used in spite of damage by earthquake. Nazarbaug Palace Morbi is one of them. The state government Lukhdhirji Engineering collage is housed in the building since 1949 till 2007. Some severely damaged portions of the institute were put in non-useful condition but approximately 80 percent of the building area was in use till 2007. Being entire palace was used as engineering institute and minor repair by the state authority was not sufficient to continue use of building and was decided to demolish the entire palace in august 2016. The 100 year old heritage structure of Nazarbaug palace is monumental landmark of Rajvadas of Saurashtra and attempt is made in this work to study critically and examine the damages caused due to 2001 earthquake as structural and non-structural damage and to find possibility to retain the heritage structure with possible intervention of modern structural engineering principles.
