Abstract – This paper aims at performing contingency analysis of a IEEE 30 test bus system and making a comparison between fixed and frequency dependent load flow analysis. Power system load is both frequency and voltage dependent. Whenever frequency changes the effective load of the system varies accordingly. This concept is utilized in frequency dependent load flow for determining the system status The system has been overloaded to certain level and its effect on the buses has been analyzed. A performance index has been used for quantifying the extent of line overload. This paper depicts how frequency dependent load flow analysis is more efficient in power system contingency analysis.
